New Jersey is home to one of the largest Tamil communities in the United States. From Jersey City to Cherry Hill, Tamils have built vibrant organizations that promote language, arts, culture, and education.
NJ Tamil Sangams highlights leading Tamil associations and cultural societies across the state that serve as the pillars of the New Jersey Tamil community.
New Jersey Tamil Peravai (NJTaP)
New Jersey Tamil Peravai (NJTaP) is the largest Tamil organization by membership in New Jersey. It was founded by various Tamil school administrators to unite Tamil families under one statewide platform. With members spanning every region — from North Jersey to South Jersey — NJTaP stands as one of the most active and inclusive New Jersey Tamil Organization, fostering collaboration, promoting Tamil culture, and community across the state.
NJTaP connects young-generation Tamil families through education, culture, and volunteerism. It collaborates closely with other NJ Tamil Sangams, Tamil Associations, and NJ Tamil Schools to host large-scale cultural festivals, youth competitions, and educational programs that strengthen Tamil identity among children and families born in the U.S.
Notably, NJTaP made history by achieving a Guinness World Record in New Jersey for Tamil Folk Arts, in partnership with other Tamil Sangams and associations — a milestone that showcased the unity and pride of Tamils across the state.
The key objectives of NJTaP include:
- Promoting Tamil language education through collaboration with NJ Tamil Schools
- Nurturing Tamil culture and heritage through statewide events
- Supporting Tamils who migrate to New Jersey with guidance and community resources
- Organizing educational contests such as Spelling Bee, Public Speaking, and cultural competitions
- Partnering with other New Jersey Tamil Sangams to strengthen unity and representation
Following the timeless vision of Thiruvalluvar — “All people are the same by birth” — NJTaP continues to inspire, unite, and lead the Tamil community in New Jersey with compassion and pride.
